Panel to Develop Atlantic Station Fuel Cell Capacity Plan
One of three projects seeded by the SFCC in 2005 is the development
of a 10-year implementation plan for installing 3.6 megawatts
of fuel cell capacity at the Atlantic Station development
site in Midtown Atlanta. To that end, the SFCC is in the process
of assembling a panel consisting of six fuel cell experts
from around the country to create a consensus strategy for
achieving the project’s ambitious fuel cell energy goals.
Panelists will be chosen from the SFCC membership and currently
include:
- Dr. Tom Fuller, Director, Georgia Tech Center for Innovative
Fuel Cell and Battery Technologies
- Dr. Rajat Sen, President & CEO, SENTECH, Inc.
- Dan Raudebaugh, Executive Director, The Center for Transportation
and the Environment
- Tim Armstrong, Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Program Manager,
Oak Ridge National Laboratory
Two additional panelists are currently being sought.
Atlantic Station is a 138-acre site that is being transformed
from a brownfield into a 24-hour live, work, and play community.
When completed, the development will consist of 1.2 million
square feet of retail, restaurant, and entertainment space,
6 million square feet of Class A office space, 1000+ hotel
rooms, 200 lofts directly above retail and restaurants, 200
townhomes, 1200 midrise and luxury apartments, 1200 high rise
condominium units, and 11 acres of public parks. The Midtown
Atlanta site is formerly home to the Atlantic Steel Mill,
which operated for almost a century until December 1998.
SFCC Teaming with NASA at Stennis Space
Center
Another project receiving seed funding through the SFCC in
2005 will bring together NASA’s Stennis Space Center
and other SFCC members to work on part of the Center’s
Hydrogen Initiative Project, specifically a hydrogen refueling
station. A project team will be assembled from SFCC members
to conduct a feasibility study, determine the overall project
costs, and create a project implementation plan.
Seed Funding for Third Fuel Cell Project
Available
The SFCC is currently seeking partners and proposals from
private and nonprofit sector team members to develop a third
fuel cell research, development, and/or demonstration project
within the 2005-2006 time frame. Projects must originate or
be primarily implemented in the southeastern region of the
U.S. and SFCC membership is required of project participants.
