CTE provides coalition management services to CC-A under an annual contract.  CTE’s ongoing involvement in local transportation-related programming and decision making, particularly in the promotion of alternative fuels and idle reduction technologies, is one of many mutually-beneficial results of this relationship.

 

Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA)

CARTA is the mass transit provider for Chattanooga, Tennessee and vicinity. Formed in 1973, CARTA operates 17 public transit routes, a free shuttle service utilizing electric buses, and the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway. CARTA is currently participating in a project team proposing to demonstrate a 22-foot hydrogen fuel cell bus in Chattanooga.

 

East Penn Manufacturing Co.

 

 

 

 

Since 1946, East Penn Manufacturing Company has been producing a wide variety of lead-acid batteries, battery accessories, and wire and cable products for virtually any application.  East Penn owns and operates the largest single site battery manufacturing facility in its industry, with a 490+ acre plant site and over two million square feet under roof.

 

Embedded Power Control

 

   

Embedded Power Control designs and manufactures motor drives, DC-DC converters, vehicle system controllers, and other components for advanced technology vehicles. EPC technology is deployed in commercial service by CARTA and in a variety of research vehicles.

EPC also designs and manufactures industrial motor drive components for TMEIC and provides its own drive system components directly to end users including NRG, Southern Company, and GE Energy. EPC is headquartered in Salem, Va.

The College of Engineering is coordinating the development of a major initiative to establish a hydrogen generation/distribution facility in the local area that will allow more rapid introduction of hydrogen-based vehicles. In addition, the university has the distinction of being named as one of the Department of Energy Graduate Automotive Technology Education research Center of Excellence with a concentration in hybrid electric vehicle powertrains and control system design.
