Fort Lewis Hydrogen Fuel Cell Pilot Program

The team has completed the design and build phase of the project and is now focusing on the demonstration phase. The pilot period began in October 2011 and will finish in June 2012. During this pilot period, the forklifts, bus, hydrogen generation system, and hydrogen dispensing site will be active on base at JBLM.
Fuel Cell Forklifts:
The team has completed GenDrive power unit design and build. The units have been put through factory acceptance testing with and have been shipped to and activated at JBLM. CTE continues to coordinate with JBLM regarding forklift operation.
Zero Emission Fuel Cell Bus:
Proterra has constructed and tested the bus and it was delivered to JBLM on August 30, 2011. The bus is registered in CTE’s name in Washington. Proterra will provide on-site support for bus operations and support for the first three months of the pilot.
Hydrogen Generation & Dispensing Site:
GTI has completed testing of the cleanup, reformer/PSA, and control room modules and they are now operational at JBLM. The Air Products dispensing site is complete and has undergone hydrogen fills.
