The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) facilitates the rapid development, commercialization, public understanding, and acceptance of advanced transportation technologies and alternative fuels and implements solutions to achieve energy and environmental sustainability.

Since its start in 1993, CTE has managed a portfolio of over $225 million in team research, development, and demonstration projects involving more than 450 organizations in the advanced transportation field. These projects represent a broad range of transportation-related challenges, including:

  • Collaborative team organization and project management
  • Technology research, development, and demonstration
  • Testing and evaluation
  • Public information and industry workshops
  • Transportation Demand Management measurement and evaluation

In partnership with the U.S. Departments of Defense, Energy, Interior, and Transportation, the U.S. Armed Forces, and NASA, among many others, CTE and its members work together to improve transportation technologies and fuels while reducing their environmental impacts.
